Drum & bass duo Synergy have capitalised on their successes from the previous two years to pull together another huge single ‘Freedom’ ft. What So Not which is due to drop on UKF’s record label this July. Providing two official remixes for legendary outfit NOISIA on their VISION imprint, they’ve continued to make their presence felt throughout the entire industry with their unforgiving sonics. Something which was also demonstrated through their hit with Misanthrop ‘Slap the Ghost’, which still remains as one of the most played tracks in the murkier trenches of the genre. Meanwhile their previous single ‘Where You Belong’ on the UKF moniker has amassed nearly a million streams. With support from the likes of Wilkinson, Sub Focus, Subsonic, Kanine, 1991 and Metrik, they remain a staple in many DJ sets, rising to notoriety with a weighty catalogue standing in the backdrop.
Similarly, What So Not has a career trajectory which is just as impressive. A gold selling artist who’s headlined Coachella, Ultra and Lollapalooza, his collaborations with the likes of Killer Mike and Run the Jewels have helped enable his crossover success. From Billboard through to Triple J, his music has been heralded by tastemakers globally.
Meanwhile ‘Freedom’ is sure to follow in the footsteps of both artists’ accolades, setting the scene amongst manipulated bass layers and a growing first breakdown diced by the record’s hopeful vocals. Synergy and What So Not blend the different hues of their production for this forthcoming release. With grinding levels and euphoric stabs of synthesis, it has a colour reel which mixes the light and dark elements of drum & bass.
Synergy joins What So Not under the banner of UKF to present another single which narrates their persisting journey into the echelons of dance music. That’s without sacrificing the undiluted approach to their sounds.
